Over the past two years, since its launch in 2005, the World Leadership Corps has placed volunteers in fourteen countries. The volunteers have come from many nations, including Ghana, Uganda, Lebanon, Pakistan, Argentina, Uzbekistan, Australia, and the United States. The yearlong volunteer assignments have focused on a wide variety of projects, including education, access to new technologies, literacy, public health, women’s issues, the environment, and economic development.

2005-07 Host-Country Projects

Argentina: Collaboration with Fundación Evolución to improve educational opportunities through the enhancement of ICT capabilities.


China: Projects focusing on environmental standards, a “green city” initiative, small business development, and cross-cultural school programs.


Dominican Republic: Projects with a village- based literacy and skills development program and a city-based demonstration program for community development and national educational reform.


Ghana: Collaboration with the African University Initiative (AUI), teacher-training initiatives, and a public health project under the supervision of the Carter Center Guinea worm eradication program.


India: Collaboration with national iEARN coordinator to enhance computer literacy and skills among students and teachers.


Jordan: Project in association with the Ministry of Education on policy and methods for expanding educational opportunity.


Lebanon: Projects involving youth and training in the elements of journalism and the news media, and coordination of conference and related programs focusing on youth and the environment.


Nigeria: Project in collaboration with SchoolNet Africa to train teachers and strengthen international education programs.


Pakistan: Initiatives under the supervision of the iEARN national coordinator to enhance cross-cultural education through teacher- training programs.


Sweden: Projects focusing on both the Earth Charter Youth Initiative as well as enhancing global communications at the Stockholm-based EC Center for Strategy and Communication.


Tanzania: Regional development project in the Kilimanjaro area to strengthen educational and economic opportunities through enhanced access to technology.


Uganda: Projects at both the national and regional levels, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and SchoolNet Africa to improve education through teacher training programs and the introduction of advanced ICT methods.


United Kingdom: Work in support of cross-cultural education projects throughout the country, with special emphasis on ICT-related programs in Wales.


United States: Project to advance the Passport for Global Learning initiative of iEARN-US based in New York, and working with communities across the country to stimulate interest in international education activities in American classrooms.
